With the aim of generating spaces for debate, exchange and presentation of results, experiences and learning in the area of Ecology and related sciences at the National level, and within the framework of the commemoration of the 20 years of the Faculty of Ecology career of Environmental and Rural Studies; Arasarí Conservation and Research and the Faculty of Environmental and Rural Studies of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, is pleased to invite you to the First Colombian Congress of Ecology to be held on November 29, 30, December 1 and 2, 2016, in the Pontificia Javeriana University, Bogotá, Colombia, South America.
The invitation and call is open to professionals, researchers, consultants and students from different disciplines who are currently working in the various fields covered by Ecology in Colombia. This call is open and broad both for members of the academy, as well as for governments, NGOs, non-profit entities, private sector entities and in general to all those who, due to their personal, professional or work desires and interests, are find applying Ecology in Colombia.

Assistant Professor of Sustainability Sciences within the Division of Marine Science and Conservation at Duke University. He has academic training in Marine Biology from ITESM in Mexico, Master in Natural Resources: Studies of small fishing from the University of Arizona.
Realizing the need to integrate social science theories into his work on common-use resources, he obtained an MPA and a PhD in Management (specializing in Cultural Anthropology) from the University of Arizona. Prior to working at Duke University, he was a Research Associate in the Political Theory and Policy Analysis Workshop at Indiana University. Basurto's experience lies in the governance and theory of commons resources, community-based management, and institutional analysis of socio-ecological systems, especially in the context of coastal marine environments and protected areas in rural areas of Latin America.
Xavier Basurto, PhD.
Colombian ornithologist with more than 35 years of experience. Originally from academic training in Marine Biology; He has a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Ecology from New Mexico State University.
He has worked in a wide range of ecological environments, including rainforests, inter-Andean valleys, cloud forests, and páramos. As a professor and researcher at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, he managed numerous projects related to the natural history and ecology of the resident bird community and the different aspects of the biology of migratory seabirds.
He currently serves as Director of Conservation for WWF Colombia. In this position, he supervises the design and execution of conservation projects related to the forest, freshwater and marine species, including the development of adaptation strategies to climate change, and was director of international programs for the American Bird Conservancy for two years.

Carolina Murcia, PhD.
A biologist from the Universidad del Valle, she is currently the Scientific Director of the Organization for Tropical Studies and a full professor in the Department of Biology at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana - Cali Headquarters. He completed a master's and doctorate in zoology at the University of Florida.
His experience lies in studies towards ecological restoration and conservation, in order to apply political responsibilities for decision-making. Dr. Murcia has worked as coordinator of the Northern Andes Sub-region of the Wildlife Conservation Society, Coordinator of the Colombia Program of the Wildlife Conservation Society, and in the Latin American Program of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
